HAZEL MILLER

 Hazel Miller is not just a great singer – “she is a force of nature!” quotes the Rocky Mountain News…her voice has been called “stunning, moving and powerful.” “Whether she is singing Blues, Jazz, Pop or Gospel, her voice charges the songs with a primal dose of genuine soul.”

“If Aretha ever had a soul sister, her name would have been Hazel Miller,” says Denver’s Citysearch. Winter 2009: Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper named Ms. Miller as “One of Denver’s Special People” during Denver’s birthday celebration. The mayor personally asked Ms. Miller to sing the Nation Anthem for the “State of the City Address 2009”. Denver Magazine and The Urban Spectrum, two of Denver’s premier publications have published articles featuring Ms. Miller and her music. Ms. Miller helped raise $180,000 to build a school in Akokoamong, Ghana. Ms. Miller headlined a concert at the Teikyo – Loretto Heights Theater to assist the Sisters of the Blessed Trinity raise funds to complete the school’s present construction phase. Summer of 2008 will find Ms. Miller performing for numerous dignitaries attending the Democratic National Convention in Denver including Graham Nash and Dianna DeGette; April 2008 Hazel Miller Jazz Quartet performed with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, directed by Eric Bertoluzzi, at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheater for the National Convention of Museums. 2008 Rocky Mountain News reported that Louisville, CO was voted the best city in America. The mayor responded with a list of perks that made Louisville a great city; Ms. Miller’s performances in Louisville at the annual Street Faire were sited as one of the reasons that the city is special; when Hazel Miller opened for the Allman Brothers at Janus Jazz Aspen Snowmass in September of 2000, the Denver Post raved “At some point the rest of the country will learn what Colorado already knows: that Hazel Miller is a Coal-fired steam engine of soul who never fails to deliver the goods and her band is tight as a timetable. And her forthcoming album just might be her ticket to national renown, judging by the samples she offered up Friday.” Picked by the Denver Post as one of the “Best Shows of 2000,” and quoted as stating, “At her CD release party, Miller, Denver’s best-loved club performer convened a lovefest, showcasing her beguiling new material before a worshipful audience.”

Hazel began her 38-year career in Louisville, Kentucky, where she rose to the top of the music scene before moving to Denver in 1984. Hazel has been one of the most sought-after Colorado performers for 25 years.

Career Highlights:

Most recently Ms. Miller is a voice of an animated character on the new PBS children’s show “The Big Green Rabbit”.

Touring vocalist for national recording and touring band, Big Head Todd and the Monsters since 1996, most recently on June 7, 2008 to a sold out house at Red Rocks (Morrison, CO.); Ms. Miller has performed at all major jazz and music festivals in Colorado; most recently the Winter Park Jazz Festival (July 26, 2009) she has performed at this festival for more than 12 years, The City Park Jazz Series (8 years), and The Telluride Blues & Brews Festival (September, 2004), where Hazel appeared as a Vocal Instructor for the Telluride Acoustic Blues Camp; The Louisville Street Faire, in Louisville, CO., for 7 years consecutively drawing large enthusiastic crowds; in her new hometown of Lakewood, CO., she has performed on the Bonfils Amphitheater for more than 5 years.

Summer of 2004 & 2005 she opened for Michael McDonald, India Irie and James Brown at the Universal Lending Pavilion. She has appeared as an opening act for Earth, Wind and Fire in the summer and fall of 2004. The Jazz aspen – Snowmass Festival was the site of her opening act for Dianne Reeves.

Boulder Weekly named her Best Artist/Performer in Boulder 2004.
