Jonah Werner

A native of Colorado, Jonah is one of the more prolific singer/songwriters in the indie scene today. He has a storyteller’s eloquence and a veteran’s ability. Jonah is “living the dream,” traveling nationally and internationally both to introduce his music and to gather the experiences that inspire his songs.

It is rare to stumble upon someone so sincere and so well-received yet completely focused on music itself rather than music as a means to an end. Jonah has toured extensively, performing for audiences large and small. He’s headlined such well-known venues as The Boulder Theater in Boulder, Colorado, The Grasshopper in L.A., Metro in Houston, 12th and Porter in Nashville, The Gypsy Tea Room in Dallas, and many more. Jonah is not just another guy with a guitar. He is a stellar writer, a gifted singer, and an explosive player/performer. The common thread that connects all of Jonah’s audiences is his inclusive and interactive concert style, reminiscent of artists such as David Wilcox and Arlo Guthrie. He connects his songs with a central theme of hope and leaves no room for void in the hearts of his listeners. His throbbing contemporary folk-rock sound, humorous and thoughtful delivery, and spiritual depth prove his music to be provocative and friendly to a broad audience.

Jonah has played alongside such artists as Switchfoot, Jeremy Camp, Sixpence None the Richer, Pierce Pettis, Shane Bernard, and more. Though he travels regularly, Jonah is reaching ears nationwide and internationally through more than touring efforts alone. He has now been featured on six compilation CDs, produced a top selling CD for Newcomer’s Home, and released four of his own albums.

Jonah’s first independent release, Soul Set Free, made its debut in 1998 and was followed shortly thereafter by Simple Man, released in August of 2000.  Receiving praise-filled reviews and boasting impressive sales figures, Simple Man served as a springboard, launching Jonah into a place of greater recognition. Jonah’s third effort, Derail, showcases range, polish, and upbeat energy. The album features a strong collection of songs that sets Jonah apart as a performer and an artist. With a Gold Record for Independent Music award, Derail has taken Jonah to the next level of success. He calls his sound contemporary folk-rock, but with the broad and eclectic sounds of Derail, Jonah Werner challenges the limits of classification. Jonah’s latest CD is live and uncut. It was recorded at the Boulder Theater and was released in the early fall of 2005. This album captures Jonah’s guitar skill and unique talent for storytelling in a way that a studio album perhaps never will.

So whether you have the pleasure of hearing Jonah in concert, run across one of his albums, or read his thoughts penned out in an interview, you will not be disappointed. This young man with a stunning capacity for crafting powerful music is undoubtedly going places.
