AARON ESPE

Aaron Espe began writing songs in high school but never pursued his music until he was in college and met some encouraging friends. He began opening for different musicians and local bands in Denver and consistently received good responses from listeners. Despite being encouraged, Aaron hesitated to really chase after his own music. “It seemed too risky, and I wasn't sure if I was good enough,” he says.  He continued to write music and play publicly but only on a casual basis, for weddings and for friends in living rooms. Once in a while he would open for a professional act. Aaron was soon asked to open for a group called Storyhill at a Minneapolis venue. He agreed, and the night he played, the folk duo sincerely praised his songs. Later, Chris Cunningham, a member of Storyhill, approached Aaron and said he wanted to help him get his music heard. Not long after, a benefactor offered to fund a large chunk of the recording expense if Aaron decided to record an album.

Fast forward a year and a half. Finally convinced that he had something worth sharing, Aaron recorded his first album. My Whole Life was independently released on September 27th, 2005. Aaron is currently promoting it, and response to the CD has been utterly positive. Within a few days of sending his album to the acclaimed CD Baby for distribution, he got an e-mail from president Derek Sivers, who said, “Aaron - I love your My Whole Life CD so much I'm going to feature it on the front page of CD Baby for a few days. We're really picky about what goes on the front page. We get about 100 new albums a day coming in here now (about 100,000 total), and yours is one of the best I've ever heard.”  Since then, his album has attracted much attention, even reaching international shores.
