COLCANNON
Celebrating the many moods of the Christmas season with stories and songs
from the Irish tradition and beyond
This will be the Christmas party everyone will want an invitation to! A
‘Christmas Come-All-Ye’ with Colcannon, is a wonderful holiday presentation
featuring great traditional and modern music, poems and stories. If you've
heard Colcannon before, you know what to expect: fabulous musicianship,
songs that make you laugh, songs that make you cry, and the inimitable wry
humor and joie de vie that makes Colcannon so special to their fans. Add to
that the power and magic of Christmas, and look out! You'll be crying in your
eggnog and dancing around the tree before you know it.
A Colcannon Christmas show. There will be the music -- all those great Irish
Christmas tunes -- a little wild, a little sad. The story-songs about Mrs.
Hooligan’s indestructible cake, the perils of skating on thin ice and a true story
about a Christmas in World War I. There will be poems by T.S Eliot and Ogden
Nash, a great English folk-poem about the real meaning of Christmas and a
less-than-poetic version of ‘The Night before Christmas’ as written by a lawyer.
And there will be carols, of course, and comic songs and even a polka.
An institution since the mid-Eighties, the band’s obvious enjoyment of each
other’s company and musicianship is obvious in concert. Their musical style is
immediately recognizable: contemporary, but still keeping firmly in touch with
the heart and essence of traditional Irish music.
