Artists' Comments Photo Gallery Links A Colorado native, Dan’s interest in music started early. By the age of fourteen he was hanging out at the Denver Folklore Center soaking up guitar licks from anybody he could. That interest deepened in high school when his family moved to Detroit and later to North Carolina. Detroit exposed him firsthand to some of the great blues and gospel artists like John Lee Hooker and the Staple Singers. North Carolina brought trips to bluegrass festivals where he discovered artists like the Stanley Brothers and Roscoe Holcolm. During college, his first recording experiences in Nashville inspired his commitment to country music. Dan returned to his beloved Colorado after college to help form a western swing band in Boulder. The result was a record deal with Columbia Records and tours all over the western US and Canada. Shortly after that, Dan was signed solo to MCA and was produced by Chris Hillman. The album was a critical success featuring the legendary musicians James Burton, Bernie Leadon, Al Perkins, Steve Cropper and Emory Gordy. Over the years, Dan has appeared on numerous recordings including several for Maranatha! Records. A veteran of dance halls and clubs, he has played in Europe, Japan and Australia. Currently, Dan lives in Nashville where he writes and performs music that is shaped by his rich and diverse influences and his deep love for American music. |
