FAIRVIEW SONGWRITERS SHOWCASE WITH HOST

Fairview Songwriter's Showcase, May 6th
This spring, Lanny Boyer, a student teacher from the University of Northern Colorado, decided to test the waters of one of the top performing arts high schools in the state of Colorado for talent in creating original music. To his delight, over 20 students signed up for a voluntary 2 month master class which was held on Mondays after school had let out. These students, who were diverse in musical interests and backgrounds, studied theory, melodic structure, chord progressions, lyrical composition, and motivation in an effort to better understand the craft of songwriting. In addition to using their influences as a base to build upon, these students were challenged to stretch their abilities and understanding of their own unique creative processes.
Tuesday, May 6th is a showcase for the students who demonstrated an overwhelming ability and determination to step on stage and accept one of the most difficult challenges in entertainment, performing their own material live. These adolescents will be sharing original songs from a variety of musical genres and backgrounds, and the evening is certain to delight. In addition to the music, each performer is encouraged to give a short background of the experience or muse which inspired his or her art in a storyteller's fashion. Along with the students, Lanny Boyer & members from the Denver band, Foma will be playing some of their original work as well.
