GEORGE NELSON BAND
George Nelson’s musical skills and repertoire are so varied that he defies categorization. His gift of self-expression includes but is not limited to blues, jazz, standards, classic songs of the '30s and '40s, show tunes, pop, soul, and country. His encyclopedic range of music, signature voicing, and natural ability to fill a room with elegance and pure presence distinguish George as nothing less than a local treasure.
For over thirty-five years, George has made his living playing in hotels, clubs and restaurants and for corporate events, private parties, and public celebrations all over the Denver and Boulder metropolitan areas as well as in California and Arizona.
George has opened for or performed with Ray Charles, Bill Cosby, Les McCann, George Duke, Frankie Avalon, Glen Yarbrough, Joe Russell (The Persuasions), Spyro Gyra, Billy Preston, the Stan Kenton Orchestra, Hazel Miller, Gene Bass, Billy Tolles, JoJo Williams, Fred Fuller, and Billy Rich (now with Taj Mahal), and he has performed for such celebrities as Johnny Mathis, Joan Van Ark, Charlton Heston, and Mariette Hartley, as well as at The Petroleum Club, The Colorado Avalanche Christmas Party, and Denver Broncos Superbowl parties.
The George Nelson Band is an ensemble of George’s admirers who relish the opportunity to share the stage with George. The band plays an eclectic selection from George’s repertoire with many rocking and soulful classics that will set your feet in motion. The band is often joined by the inimitable Marlene Carvalho, who’s vocal style contrasts and complements George in many duets. The George Nelson Band features Chris Carvalho on Guitar, Craig McClatchey on bass, and William Garrison on Drums and features Colorado’s best saxophonists.
