Artists' Comments Photo Gallery Links Onstage, jazz vocalist Janine Gastineau really likes to mix things up. She's just as likely to include a Brazilian afoxe, a Sondheim showtune, a 1950s Disney number, a Cape Verdean creole, or some soul or French pop in her set list of jazz and standards. Her eclectic repertoire, which includes songs sung in 3 languages (besides English) is her hallmark, and it's all performed in her intimate, lyrical, heartfelt style. "I seek the ecstatic in everything I sing. Sometimes it's the song itself I fall in love with. Sometimes it's the way the song and I grow together. Either way, emotion - the song's heart and soul - draws me in and leads me towards the fullest expression I can find. Performing is my chance to share that journey." A dynamic, expressive singer, Janine has performed with her Rhythm since 2005 throughout Boulder and Denver (most recently at Dazzle Restaurant & Lounge), appeared twice at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret in “Art Isn’t Easy,” her original Stephen Sondheim musical theatre revue, and is a founding member of the women’s trio The Whippoorwills, which performs folk, swing, doo-wop and traditional/roots music in English, Hebrew and Zulu.
