She led children and youth church choirs in high school, but it was not until college that she truly accepted Christ. Marjorie says, “I came to a place in my life where I was lost and tired of running. It was on New Year’s Day 1999 that I gave everything to Him as He took me into His arms. I have been on the mountaintop and in the valley, and through it all, my prayer is that my heart would be soft so He can make me more like Him." Jorie received her degree from Hardin-Simmons University, where she majored in Communication and minored in Church Ministry. She has been on staff at churches in Texas, where she served as the worship leader, and she currently serves at Resurrection Fellowship in Loveland, Colorado. She also mentors and speaks to girls and women of all ages and sees the need to communicate to them how unique and beautiful God has made them. She says, “Through the circumstances of my past, God has given me a heart to relate and communicate a message of hope and perseverance for these young women.” Through her ministry, Jorie has been able to share her message of song and worship at several venues. In August 2002 and August 2003, her praise and worship songs “Jesus Come Quickly” and “Lay It Down” were selected as being among the Top 20 Praise Songs in the nation at the Seminar in the Rockies for GMA (Gospel Music Association). She performed at Fiesta Texas, at the Singer/Songwriters Showcase with Mitch McVicker and Kemper Crabbe, at Singles Fest UUMC, at “Grace for the Rest of Your Life” conferences with speaker Jill Sedgwick, at Alpha North America conferences, and at various women’s and youth conferences around the state. She sings background vocals for Dove Award-Nominated Singer/Songwriter Chris Taylor and was featured on his album “Brand New Ache.” She has also opened for Nichole Nordeman in San Antonio, Texas. Jorie has a strong affection for India. She has been there twice and now works with the Dalit Freedom Network in Denver, where she serves as the coordinator for the upcoming Dalit Freedom Festivals. She will not only be a voice for the dalit people through her music at the festivals but hopes to educate and encourage young people to find their voice. For more information about the dalit people, check out www.dalitnetwork.org Jorie strives to be a real person for real people. Her hero is Jesus and then Rich Mullins. “I loved Rich because he was not afraid to be messy. I want to be challenged and to challenge others to be all that God created us to be but to know that it’s OK to be in the process. He is the great artist and creator and wants us to join in with what He is doing. We are all on this journey together and each of us is a part of His great masterpiece!” |
