KATELYN BENTON & JOHN MAGNIE

John Magnie is best known for being the keyboard player and second-lead vocalist in The Subdudes, the world-beloved zydeco/cajun/soul/funk group out of New Orleans, but his impression on various local music scenes and the musicians he encounters spreads farther and wider than this. Magnie has graced the performances and recordings with Bonnie Raitt, Sam Bush, Anders Osborne, Shawn Colvin, Keb Mo', and Amy Grant among many others. Magnie is considered iconic in many music communities around the country. His songs are haunting and unforgettable as his performance is moving and genuine.

Katelyn Benton’s background in classical piano combined with exceptional songwriting and rock influence has shaped her music into something unique in a world of pop clones. Growing up between Colorado and Louisiana, Benton developed a wide variety of musical taste and performance experience, gigging regularly by age 12. During Benton's time at Berklee College of Music in Boston, she and her band gigged throughout Boston and New York- quickly expanding her reputation and fan base. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2007,Benton began working on Once, a new EP of all new original songs. Benton is currently traveling primarily between Los Angeles, Louisiana, and Denver, recording, writing new music, and playing for new audiences.

Magnie and Benton first met in 2000, when Benton was a 12-year-old aspiring singer/songwriter working on putting together her first album. Both Magnie and Benton had common roots in both Denver and Louisiana. John became a mentor for Benton, providing advice, guidance, and knowledge throughout the years that followed. Eventually, the two began co-writing songs by either sending tapes and MP3s back and forth or meeting up when both artists were in the same state. In 2009, their song Impossible Love won the award for Best Music Video at the Just Plain Folks awards, the largest independent music award show in the world, and was a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. Join the two for their first ever show billed together at Nissi's and enjoy an evening of dueling pianos, accordions, singing and some never-before heard songs
