From some of Colorado's most experienced session musicians comes a uniquely
traditional Irish folk sound.
Maggie's favorite blends their voices in songs, sung in English and Gaelic,
and a texture of instrumentation rarely heard in the US.
In the blends you may hear harp and uilleann pipes, joined by the fiddle and
tenor banjo, or you may hear the haunting sound of the
low whistles, and guitar, and the voices of Tim and Patty Murphy, the band's
founders.
Tim and Patty Murphy are originally from the Boston Area, where both
performed with the Gloucester Hornpipe and Clog Society, playing all
over New England as well as at the Letterkenny Folk Festival in county
Donegal, Ireland, where they shared the stage with Altan. They have
lived in Denver since 1990, and are founding member's of Denver's longest
running Traditional Irish Music session, currently at Scruffy
Murphy's in LODO on Sunday evenings.Tim plays fiddle and sings in both Irish
and English. Patty plays both guitar and harp and provides vocals as well.
The band is five members. Each member sings and plays more than one
instrument.
Tim Murphy sings in both Irish and English, and plays fiddle.
Patty Murphy plays harp and guitar.
Nancy Fithian plays the Irish drum, called the bodhran.
Dirk Mewes is on uilleann pipes, and low whistles.
Pete Strickler is on tenor banjo, mandolin, and Irish bouzouki.
