The son of a Filipino mother and an African-American father, Jack was born in the Philippines. He grew up in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco. His mother bought him an acoustic guitar at the age of twelve because she wanted to keep him busy. The family moved to Denver, Colorado, where he learned to play music by ear, playing music by everyone from Hendrix to Dylan, unaware that he was learning the foundation of American music – the blues.

Face is a nationally recognized vocal rock band based out of Boulder, Colorado, bringing a new edge and attitude to the human voice. Going strong for over 15 years the Johnny O. Band maintains a firm foothold on the Colorado music scene. Seasoned veteran drummer, Marion Edwards, has been with Johnny O. for 13 of those years. The newest band member, Ian Anderson, has now completed his 5th year on bass. This funky, well oiled rhythm section, combined with Johnny O.'s powerful stage presence creates an infectious groove that doesn’t let go. Having just completed their new album entitled "Life’s Tough", the band is refocused and committed to bringing their unique sound to the national and international music scene

To celebrate Nissi's 10th anniversary month we'll be bringing you some of Colorado's top bands performing for the first time at Nissi's. Most of these bands are based outside of the Boulder County area and have huge followings in other areas of the state.

Makeshift was formed in 2011 as "Makeshift Funk Band," but now goes by Makeshift as their musical variety has expanded to include Top 40, 80's, rock, and R&B. They have been described as "the musician's band," as they stubbornly swim against the tide of backing-track reinforced bands and instead choose to play everything live.
